ORIGINAL ADACHI GINKO DELUXE EDITION JAPANESE WOOD BLOCK PRINT Artist: Adachi Ginko (Active 1874-1897) Artist's Signature: Ginko Artist's Seal: Ginko Series: "O-Edo Shibai Ichinen Gyoji", On the Kabuki Theatre in Edo Date: 1897 Offered in this eBay lot is a deluxe print by noted Meiji period (1868-1912) artist Adachi Ginko. The quality of this print is clearly evidenced by the fine gauffrage, and the extensive use of metallic pigments. Born Adachi Heishichi, woodblock printmaker, Ginko studied with the Western-style painter Goseda Horyu I. Ginko drew hanshita for prints of the Boshin rebellion in 1870. He also produced satirical cartoons, book illustrations, prints of the Sino- Japanese War and actor portraits. This series literally followed the great events of the theatre and this is clearly a deluxe portrayal of a special event. The print is in Aiban-Tate format (approximately 11" x 16"). It is an excellent impression with superb color in outstanding condition and has been custom framed in conservation mounts for display. Guaranteed Original 1897 First Edition, not a reprint, facsimile reproduction or any other kind of copy. References: Robyn Buntin of Hawaii; Carolyn Stayley Fine Arts; Artelino.
