AUTHENTIC NATIVE AMERICAN PLAINS WAR CLUB

I am pleased to present for auction this original authentic Native American Plains Indian WAR CLUB.

Measures 28 1/2" long which denotes that this was made for use while riding a horse due to the long handle.

The smooth Double Pointed Stone Head is marked with a carved "X" or "+" on the underside of the Stone Head (see closeup image).

A leather wrapped handle is shown with the appropriate aged patina and very hard.

"Every Plains warrior carried some kind of club when he went raiding or to war." ---------1972, Thomas E. Mails, "The Mystic Warriors of the Plains," p. 464.

"The warrior selected the club head with great care, choosing smooth and colorful stones from stream beds that would not split on impact." ---------1972, Thomas E. Mails, "The Mystic Warriors of the Plains," p. 465.

"Every tribe in America used clubs, but after the adoption of more effectual weapons, as the bow and the lance, clubs became in many cases merely a part of the costume, or were relegated to ceremonial." ---------1912, Frederick Webb Hodge, "Handbook of American Indians North of Mexico," part 1, p. 313.

I acquired this War Club at an Illinois Estate Sale that had a huge selection of authentic Native American Artifacts. I do not know w this War Head originated from.

Condition: The handle about 3/4" of the way down shows a break and a previous repair. The handle is still intact but does bend at break (see closeup image).

PLEASE ask all questions prior to bidding. Insurance will be calculated at end of auction and please wait to pay until I send an INVOICE with calculated INSURANCE. Payment is required to be sent NO LATER than three days after end of auction. Be sure and checkout my newly listed items from this same estate. Thank You for dropping by to view my auction.

AMENDED: I contacted a website online that provided extensive information regarding PLAINS WAR CLUBS and sent him images of my WAR CLUB. is what he had to say about my piece:

Dear Marilyn, The war club is old and well used. I'm not familiar enough with them to be able to say what tribe this one would be from. That may not be possible anyway. It would have belonged to one of the Plains Indian tribes. My guess on its age would be sometime in the 1800's. Pete Bostrom
