Welcome to the world of the incomparable Bill Ward, w the women were all beautiful and curvacious and the men were lecherous. Bill Ward was the most popular and talented cartoonist in the last fifty years, published in many men's magazines. This is an 23.5" by 18" pencil cartoon with conte crayon highlights. This is a fully finished cartoon, complete with great shading. The girl's body is outrageous and she is emphasized with the conte crayon. The punch line is handwritten on the bottom. "I haven't taken up smoking. I just happened to bring my bathing suit in a match box!" The cartoon is on the thin sketch paper that Ward used for most of his big cartoons. It is then taped to a hard cardboard. The size given for the size of the cartoon does not include the cardboard. T is the yellow-brown marks around the cartoon from the tape. The cartoon is signed on the bottom center. A beautiful example of Ward's skill and talent!! It was first published in October, 1962 but I can't really read the magazine name because if was scratched out. It looks like Pilot . It was also pulished in Zip magazine in March, 1970. T is also the notation "reprint" in the Humorama Paid stamp in the lower left. It also has the Timely Features, Inc., stamp in the upper right corner. An excellent addition to your collection or for just owning a piece of American history. If you have any question please ask prior to bidding.
