This auction is for a rare John Calvin Brewster original cabinet card measuring 8 1/4" x 5 1/8" and the photograph measuring 7 3/4" x 4 1/2". It is a great, large cabinet card. There are many articles and websites with information on Ventura California's first resident photographer John Calvin Brewster (Born 1841- Died 1909) with one of the most extensive informational pieces in Pioneer Photographers of the Far West: A Biographical Dictionary, 1840-1865 by Peter E. Palmquist and Thomas R. Kailbourn. In Pioneer Photographers, it states the following information: "John Calvin Brewster (1841-1909) Photgrapher, photographic retoucher; active Warsaw, Ill, c. 1860; Leroy, Iowa, c. 1861-1862; Sacremento, Calif., 1862- c. 1863; Vallejo, Calif., c. 1863; Virginia City, Nev., 1864, 1870-71; Carson City, Nev. 1864-65; Ruby City, Idaho, c. 1865; Boise, Idaho, 1865; Salt Lake City, Utah, c. 1865-1866, 1868; Camp Douglas, Utah, c. 1865 or 1866; Shermantown, Nev., c. 1866 or 1867; Helena, Mont., 1866-68; White Pine, Nev., 1869; Visalia, Calif., c. 1870 or 1871; San Francisco 1871-72; San Luis Obispo, Calif., 1872-74; San Buenaventura (Ventura), Calif., 1874-c. 1893; Santa Paula, Calif., 1890s-c. 1909."
