This weeks auctions will feature several RARE airborne items from WWII. What better way to kick it off than with an ORIGINAL D-Day paratrooper cricket. Not only is this an original WWII manufactured cricket , it is one of the even more rare Chrome Types made by Acme in England. These were the first type issued to 101st Airborne paratroopers prior to the D-Day jump into Normandy. I have included several reference pictures from renowned Airborne author and collector Mark Bando's website as well as a few shots from the M.De Trez booklet on crickets. Picture 1 shows an original from the booklet as does picture 3,4 and 10. Pictures 9 and 11 are pictures of the 502 PIR Surgeon, George "Doc" Lage cricket that he carried into Normandy around his neck. These chrome types stay in pristine condition as exhibited by the other originals shown here. THIS IS NOT ONE OF THE CURRENT REPRODUCTION ONE'S MADE BY ACME TODAY. There are several differences to note in the real ones compared to the reproduction ones. Check out their website and see the differences for yourself. 1. The new Acme made one's have an "R" on the inside. 2. The thumb depression is not the same as on an original. 3. The slight die flaw is not present on the repro's as it is on originals. Also note that the chrome types were the only one's made with a hole already present at the top middle of the cricket. The later brass one's are not stamped Acme nor do they have a hole in them. Many paratroopers made holes in their crickets in order to carry them on a dog tag chain, piece of leather or a string. In researching crickets over the years, I have discovered that several chrome types have turned up in 502 PIR paratroopers effects. I am unaware of this type turning up in other regiments. Does this mean something? Who knows. These are so exceedingly rare you may never have a chance to purchase or even see one again. NOTICE: THE LAST PHOTO SHOWS A MODERN DAY ACME REPRODUCTION CRICKET. Notice the difference in the shape of the thumb depression! This cricket is guaranteed for life, mine, yours, whatever, to be an original WWII manufactured cricket as stated and is 100% original without any doubt. If you need additional pictures, I will be happy to provide them to serious buyers. I will ship to the U.S. Europe and Canada. The buyer will be responsible for paying for fully tracked shipping, NO EXCEPTIONS! NOTE TO THE BUYER: Please contact me prior to making payment on this item!
