ORIGINAL CIVIL WAR CDV OF THE ARLINGTON HOUSE BUILDING (ROBERT E. LEE MEMORIAL) I am selling a collection of Civil War CDVs, mostly soldiers. This auction is the fourth of four (please see my other three auctions). This auction is for an original and rare CDV of the Arlington House building taken during the Civil War. Arlington House (The R.E. Lee Memorial), is a Greek revival style mansion located in Arlington, Virginia and was once the home of Confederate General Robert E. Lee. It overlooks the Potomac River, directly across from the National Mall in Washington, D.C. During the American Civil War, the grounds of the mansion were selected as the site of Arlington National Cemetery, in part to ensure that General Lee would never again be able to return to his home. Yet the United States has since designated the mansion as a national memorial to its former opponent, a mark of widespread respect for Lee in both the North and South. This CDV measures 2.5" x 4" and is in very good, clean condition with a nice brown tonal range and good contrast. The image is sharp showing lots of detail and even the tiny figures in the foreground are visible. See my photos of the close-ups. The photographer is Cross & Childs Photographers of Forts Richardson & Lyon, VA. This rare CDV will come to the winner in its own plastic bag and packaged securely. read more
