For auction is a rare pair of original Civil War boots of the type favored by both infantry and cavalry soldiers. The history that I have on these boots is as follows. Several years ago the boots were purchased at an estate sale in Maryland. They were part of the belongings of a Connecticut soldier that included his kepi , coat and some accouterments. T was also a picture of him in uniform and , according to the woman I bought them from , he was wearing these boots or something very similar. The womans son , who bought the items for next to nothing ,broke up the collection when he lost his interest in collecting. For some reason the boots were not offered for sale and have been in the family garage ever since. The boots are stuffed with newspapers dated 1999. They stand about 15" tall and I would estimate they are size 7 or 8. T is very little difference between right and left. As you can see from the pictures the soles are held in place with wooden pegs as is the extra or double sole. The heels are made up with layers of leather and held in place with square hand cut nails. The pullup straps are secured on the inside but come through to the outside by a cut in the leather. One photo shows what appears to be a repair to the top of the boot front but I think it was probably a problem with a measurement of the piece of leather that was corrected by adding an additional piece. In more than 50 years of collecting and selling Civil War items this is only the second pair that I have ever had. The reserve on the boots is $200 , well below what they are worth. Please email me with questions.
