Up for auction is this original Confederate States of America sword or saber. The single edged slightly curved blade measures 27" in length. Overall length is 32-1/2". Blade has a single wide unstopped fuller on both sides which extends approximately two-thirds of its length. The blade is unmarked and gray, with light scattered pitting and a slight bend. The very tip is missing, perhaps 1/16".The knuckle guard is brass and square in cross section. It is stamped "17" just before it enters the pommel. The oval counterguard is turned down around its edge and has decoration on the top. The brass pommel is undecorated and is stamped with the number "17". The grip is wood covered in black leather, 80% of which remains. Only a very small remnant of single strand brass wire remains. Both grip and guard exhibit some looseness. No scabbard.
