Up for sale is an original US Cartridge Box Plate I purchased earlier this year. The gentleman I purchased this from said he acquired it in a collection he purchased from a close friend a number of years ago. He said his friend was a collector and he told him it was dug from one of the battlefields in Gettysburg, but did not know which one. No documentation was supplied with this plate. The plate has a good dark patina uniform accross the face with residue of soil remaining on the piece. The back shows the typical lead-filled back with wire loops to attach the plate to the cartridge box intact, but evidencing some rust. The plate is in excellent shape for being over 150 years old. This resembles the condition of anothe plate unearthed in Petersboro, Virginia.
