Up for auction is an amazing set of original Eames Shell Arm Chairs. These iconic chairs were recently acquired by their original owner who stated she purchased them in the early 1950s. They are thought to be 1st production. The molded fiberglass is a beautiful light yellow color with luminescence and translucency. They all have Herman Miller/Zenith Plastics checkerboard labels, rope edges, and X bases with large shock mounts. All foot glides are original and intact. They are a stunning example of authentic Mid-Century Modern Design. To find them in a matching set like this from their original owner is a true rarity. They are in fantastic condition. They have no chips, cracks, or repairs/refinishing. The only flaws are stains on 2 chairs from the shock mount adhesive that has bled through the fiberglass (common occurrence that Mr. Eames reassured as being an organic result of the materials and not a design flaw) and a small paint splatter on 1 chair. Three chairs have zinc x-bases and 1 chair has a black x-base. The chairs are dirty and I am selling them as-is, leaving the cleaning up to the new owner. The original owner glued a newspaper clipping to the bottom of 1 chair. She knew what she had and that is why I had to pay a hefty price for them!
