Two small vintage original artworks by Listed Artist Gerda Christofffersen who is renowned for her paintings of Native Indian children, sometimes called the Papoose style. Born in Denmark, she emigrated to Canada with her family and also painted in New Mexico. She immersed herself in the history and tribal lore of the Southwest Indians and became one of the most important Indian portrait artists of America. These works probably date from the 1950's or 60's, and look to be in their original oak wooden frames. They are slightly different sizes. The smaller painting (4.25” x 5.25”) is an exceedingly charming portrait in oil of a native boy. The larger painting (4.75” x 6”) appears to be one of her earlier pastel works on paper, the subject being a lovely native girl child. I have not removed the pictures from the frames, but a previous owner has done so as they are taped at the back. There are some reflections in the photos from the glass, please disregard these. I think these lovely portraits could benefit from reframing, I could mail them without their frames for less cost if the buyer does not want the frames. Please see my other listings for another Native American oil painting. ****PLEASE NOTE******I removed the oil from its frame as there was an odd smudge around the boy's face, it turned out to be dirt on the inside of the glass. read more
