Original Japanese NAVY OFFICER SWORD NLF WWII WW2 NICE! This is a rare original Japanese Navy officer's D-Guard sword in high quality mounts and in excellent plus condition. This is not the traditional Japanese Samurai sword style but rather is the standard type used for dress occasions by Naval Officers. However, the blade is probably a hand made example judging from the quality of the mounts. These are very rare swords and not many are found. These have traditionally been ignored in the past by most collectors of Japanese swords but interest in this rare type is growing. The 26 3/4" blade has grooves on each side terminating near the point. I am not sure this is a hand forged blade as it has been improperly cleaned. The blade is thick and has a traditional habaki like is found on traditional Samurai swords. The blade is very well made and has a traditional Samurai sword point or boshi-see close up. I can't see any temper line but this is likely due to the improper cleaning. I know that most blade found in this type of mount are machine made but some are hand forged with traditional methods. This blade needs a polish in order to tell what it is. Perhaps a "window" will be polished into the blade by the buyer? The blade is very clean at the moment and t are no chips or nick in the edge. Nor are t any bad spots with rust or pitting read more
