Item Description: This is an original Japanese sword tsuba (hand-guard). It measures 2 9/16 in x 2 11/16 in (6.5 x 6.9 cm) and ¼ in (.5 cm) thick. It is in excellent condition. It looks to be made of iron and is one piece with sukashi (cut outs). T is also a bird-theme at the four corners of the sukashi resembling the heads, beaks, and wings of birds. It is Maru Gata , or round, and has a nice patina. I’m not sure of the age, but I would place it between Muromachi or Edo periods (c. 1500-1600). It came off of an old Japanese sword. Overall, this would be a nice example to add to a collection of tsuba or Japanese swords. Terms and additional items: This item is original and not a knockoff or fake from China . The analysis regarding the piece and fittings listed above is my own and while I think I am accurate, I can not 100% guarantee that aspect.
