A very fine original Hawaiian drypoint/etching by the well known and recognized Hawaiian artist John Melville Kelly (1878-1962). A classic image of 3 men and a boy around an outrigger canoe in the shade of palm trees on the beach. The size of the paper is 10x9 inches. The size of the plate image is 8.5x8 inches. The print is in excellent condition for cira 1930's with no foxing. Two old tape pieces remain attached to the top of the page, well removed from the plate image. This print is signed in the plate in pencil, lower right, "John Kelly". While t is no title on this print, I have seen this same Kelly image for sale in Hawaii with the John Kelly pencil signature in the lower right and "canoe" written in pencil in the lower left. This print was purchased from an art gallery in Hawaii a number of years ago. This same John Kelly print/image was listed for sale at an island gallery in 2005 for $4,300 and for $6,250 this summer in another gallery - each beautifully framed in Koa. My reserve is less than half of the 2007 gallery price.....good luck. Shipping is $15.00 plus insurance costs.
