This is an original WW2 or post WW2 M1 Helmet with authentic 97th Infantry Division patch painted on both sides of the steel pot (picture #1 right side, #2 left side). It is rear seam, non stainless steel rim, swivel bales. The strap on the right side is torn off mostly. This was found as-is at the local flea market here in Hawaii last year. The liner is included. It has an infantry school decal on the right side (pictured) but scraped off on the left side. It has Korean War era sgt stripe decal on the front. I don't think the liner really goes with the steel pot but that's how it was found so I'm selling it together. The 97th Infantry Division got into WW2 action in Europe late in the fighting. At the collapse of Germany the 97th was deployed to the Pacific Theater to take part in the invasion of Japan. They actually were the only US Division from Europe to make it over here before the A-bombs ended the war in this theater as well. The 97th went on to occupation duty in Japan after the war. I figure this is either a helmet that was worn in Europe and brought over here to Hawaii and left here or it was worn in occupied Japan and brought back to Hawaii. Again, I don't think the liner was originally meant for this lid. There is a name & what looks like a service number in the liner shell but I can't quite make it out. Buyer pays postage. read more
