ORIGINAL LIFE AND DEATH OF JUMBO THE CIRCUS ELEPHANT, 1890s

This is a period brochure, 15 pages, detailing the life and death of Barnum and Bailey's famous Circus elephant, Jumbo. It's told with all the over-the-top tabloid-style writing of that period; I was afraid to read it, too sad. But it's a remarkable story and a great piece of ephemera. Good condition with some edge wear; some internal pages are loose, but no major problems; has a dramatic 2-page spread showing how Jumbo died, hit by a train in Canada in 1885; this piece seems to be from a few years after his death. Barnum, of course, made a fortune after the African elephant before and after his death, when his skeleton went on display; 10 x 7. Thank you and please be sure to check out my other early dags, ambros, tintypes, tobacciana and early paper ephemera.
