This no reserveauction is for an original Lionel 2270W Jersey Central Passenger set. This set was cataloged in 1956 only and was led by the 2341 Jersey Central FM Locomotive followed by a 2533 Silver Cloud Pullman Car, 2532 Silver Range Vista Dome Car and 2531 Silver Dawn Observation along with track, UCS and peripheral items. This is one of the most sought after sets of Lionel's postwar era.

The set in this listing is complete and original with all original component boxes/packaging with the exception of the set box and the track. The engine is guaranteed to be original as it features all authentication points. The passenger cars are flat channels in the correct boxes with coupler protection flaps (not liners). This set has been tested. The engine cycles smoothly in forward, neutral and reverse and the headlight works. I did not test the horn. The battery compartment is spotless and the original battery shows no leakage. The lights work in all 3 cars. The following describes the pieces:

2341 Jersey Central FM: Guaranteed to be original. This is the dull finish variation. Operates smoothly. A very faint hairline crack below the screws is only visible under bright photography lights. No plastic loss. Roof shows no wear. All chrome hardware is present and firmly attached. Two very small spots of rust along the running board. Only a few disturbances in the paint including a a couple of chippies along the bottom of the shell, a bump at the front, a very small smudge mark and a very thin 3/4" crescent shaped scratch on one side. Pictures 5, 6 and 7 show some of the noted flaws. The round FM decals show edge wear as is common. There is a small chip in the plastic toward the top of one of the steps. The flaws noted above sound much worse than they really are. This engine sits inside a very nice and complete original box. The box is marked 2341 with an X rubber stamped on the end. Someone wrote Jersey Central in pencil on the open end. It might erase. The box number 2341-15 is visible on one side. The number 6 is under the manufacturer's certificate. The original liner sits inside. It is complete except for the fold flap on one end. The engine is wrapped in a large sheet of non-ribbed Lionel logo paper that looks to be original. The instruction sheet is numbered 2321-85 and dated 6-55 which is correct for the Jersey Central. Overall, I would grade this 2341 Jersey Central in the C6-7 range.

2533 Silver Cloud Pullman Car/2532 Silver Range Vista Dome Car/2531 Observation: Lights work in all 3 cars. The flat channel cars are correct for this set. They could use a cleaning. They all match showing consistent levels of use and there are a few contact marks as is typical. Silhouettes are all present. Some box rubs at high points. Each car comes in the correct OB without liners. These boxes are exceedingly difficult to find. The 2531 is a Middle Classic box with all flaps including both coupler protection flaps. The 2532 and 2533 boxes are Late Classics with all end flaps, tuck flaps and interior flaps. Each has 1 coupler protection flap. The boxes show some shelf wear with a few scuffs and some faint pencil writing on the end flaps. One of the 2533 end flaps has a tear but it is still firmly attached. There is no tape on the boxes. Overall, I would grade the cars in the C6 - C7 range.

Peripherals: 1956 color Catalog (C9), 1956 Accessories Catalog - some cover wear (C5-6), 310 Billboard sheet from 1955 (correct for the 2270W set) - Uncut - Some light spotting/shelf wear (C5-6), 926-56 Owner's Manual for 1956-1957 (C8), RCS Track sits in a brick box. Some wear on one end flap. Instruction sheet properly dated 4-56 (C8), 511 Inspection Slip (C6), Eveready D Cell Battery - unused, no leakage (C9). As noted above, there are no straight or curved track and no set box. Overall, the peripherals grade out to the C7 - C8 range.

Overall, this is a very desirable set in collectible condition. Please view the pictures for additional descriptive detail. Check my feedback and . This is the real deal...
