Thisno reserve auction is for an original Lionel 6257X Caboose in its original box. Lionel produced the 6257X in 1948 only. The "X" suffix on the box signified that the caboose had a magnetic coupler on both ends, allowing additional play value with the 1656 switcher, which had an operating front coupler. Please see Greenberg's Guide to Lionel Trains, 1945 - 1969, Volume III: Cataloged Sets by Paul V. Ambrose for more detail about set 1425B. This car is clean showing limited run time. Both couplers work. The paint shows a little rubbing at high points but otherwise shows few contact marks. It even has the original 51148 inspection slip. The key to this piece is the box since, outside of the extra coupler, the car has no unusual markings designating it as a 6257X. The box has all end flaps, tuck flaps and interior flaps in place. There is one coupler protection flap. The joint where one of the end flaps meets the tuck flap shows stress. The box is a little bowed. Please see the pictures for additional descriptive detail. Buyer pays $8.75 for S&H. Please note that I gladly refund excess postage if the amount noted is $1.00 or more above actual postage cost.
