This no reserve auction is for an original Lionel 6827 P&H Power Shovel Executive Presentation Display. Lionel established a relationship with the Pawling & Harnischfeger (P&H), the premier producer of large excavating equipment, in 1960. Lionel cataloged the 6827 Power Shovel Car and 6828 Mobile Construction Crane Car from 1960 - 1963. Lionel was known to present custom displays to corporate executives after agreements had been reached between the two companies. A very similar display for Cities Service is shown on page 30 of Greenberg's Guide to Lionel Trains, 1945 - 1969, Volume V: Rare and Unusual. It is interesting to note that the relationship with Cities Service was established in 1960 as well. These executive displays are truly exceptionally rare.The real star of this show is the stained and finished wooden display board. It measures approximately 14-7/8" long by 3-1/4" wide by 3/4" high. It features a silver colored plaque with the words "MADE BY / THE LIONEL CORPORATION" in black lettering centered at the front of the display (identical to the one on the Cities Service display board). A pair of 6" long Super "O" straight tracks is mounted on top of the display board. On the tracks is a regular production 6827 P&H flat car that is secured to the display board by a pair of screws that go through the flat car and through the track down to the display board (to prevent the car from moving). A regular production 6827-100 P&H Power Shovel sits on top of the car. The 6827-100 Power Shovel is original and mostly complete but is missing a few parts. An original 6418-9 elastic band secures the Power Shovel to the car. Guaranteed to be original. These executive displays almost never show up on the market. Overall, a truly rare piece for even the most advanced Lionel collection. I have the matching original 6828 P&H Mobile Construction Crane Executive Presentation Display as well.
