The next item up for bid is an original Model 1840 Non-Commissioned Officers (NCO) sword, manufactured by Ames. The sword is marked on one side of the ricasso with "MADE BY AMES CHICOPEE MASS. " The other side is marked "US TKL" which is the inspectors mark and has the date of manufacture " 1864." Also the initials JH are present on the knuckle guard. The scans and/or photos indicate most aspects of the condition better than I could hope to describe it. I must admit my camera recently gave out, so I am limited to a scanner and photos taken using another form of outdated technology. Tfore I have used my scanner for as many images as possible. Don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions. I will add the guard does has a usage dent or two, they are almost unnoticeable and you can find them easier by touch rather than the naked eye. So this sword is not perfect, but is a fine example by one of the best sword makers of the time. This example is fine enough for a collector to display, yet it could also be utilized by a reenactor without worry of impacting it's value The blade in is good shape, with aging present but no pitting nor usage nicks. Both the hilt and the blade display deep rich age patina. The original scabbard is also included, but it is in pieces with evidence of an old attempt at an repair utilizing electrical tape.
