We are pleased to offer this rare original 1896 Frances Brundage illustration as printed for and distributed by Charles Nelson Nashville, TN. In the mid 1800's Nelson opened his Green Brier Distillery and was known for using the work of the fine artists of the day to promote his products. This beautiful example is from an 1896 calendar and is in very good antique condition with some minimal spotting around the edge. It does have two small holes at the top where the calendar was originally bound. It is printed on heavy ivory card stock which has allowed it to be preserved so nicely. It measures 8.25" x 11.25" and is framed with a border of English Ivy. It features one of many illustrations done by Brundage(s) for the 1880 work by Charles Dickens entitled Children's Stories from Charles Dickens, published by Raphael Tuck & Sons. This print features a quotation from the story of Bleak House which says "They're all a-watching, and a-driving of me. Every one of em's doing it, from the time when I don't get up, to the time when I don't go to bed. And I'm a-going somewheres. That's where, I'm a-going." along with a mention "Compliments of Chas. Nelson, Nashville, Tenn." We have multiple copies and items from this work. This is one of two that do not have a signature, or it was obscured by the calendar block.
