This is a real handmade Native American bead necklace. It is an old necklace, the real thing, not of of the thousands of awful copies made in Asia. I have not seen another necklace quite like this one. It is unbelievably long, it measures over 12 feet long, all in one unbroken strand. When I bought it, it was wrapped so that it looked like a multi-strand necklace, but when I got home and looked closely at it, I saw that it was tied together at the back with a piece of cord. When I got the knot undone, I found that t were two shorter strands and then the rest of the necklace was one, unbroken strand of very old handmade beads that was over 12 feet long! The necklace in this auction is one of the shorter necklaces that were part of the 12 foot necklace which has already been sold. I have included a picture of the entire necklace so that you can see that it is from the original long necklace. We live in Arizona, close to several Native American reservations and we come across a lot of old items from auctions and private sellers, but I have never seen anything like this necklace. It is very hard to tell what the beads are made of, it looks like old glass European seed beads. They are each completely different,no two beads are alike and t are also other odd beads of about the same size sprinkled throughout the necklace. I wanted to leave the necklace as close to the way I found it as possible. I did not re-string the necklace, you can see that the cord is old, the color shows the age and it is dry, but it is still very strong, it is not fragile, it is very dry in AZ and the cord did not rot or become brittle. The only thing I did to this necklace is to put on the new sterling clasp, everything else on this necklace is completely original. I don't know how old it is, but it definately has some age to it, I think it was made around 1920. This is a really wonderful necklace and if appreciate fine quality, rare and original jewelry, you can be sure that you will not see anyone else with a necklace like this one. I have a strong feeling that this necklace is worth a lot more than what we are asking for it. We have collecting all kinds of gemstone beads and gemstones for over 20 years and we have beem using these old beads and gemstones to make some gorgeous necklaces, mostly one of a kind and for sure you won't see these at the mall and see every other woman wearing the same neckace.
