This is a rare and original July 20th 1938 photograph of Howard Hughes receiving the "Cross of Honor" medal from the United States Flag Association by Colonel James A. Moss President General of the Association. Also in the photo is Al Lodwick. Later in August 1939 a gold medal award was made by an act of congress in recognition of Hughes' epic Around the World Flight of 1938. The photo is an 8x10 and it has a tear in the upper top left margin which you will spot in the photo. The photo is from the estate of Al Lodwick, he was the flight operations manager for that flight.
