Original Porcelain Mobilgas Signmade by McMath-Axilrod of Dallas, Texas This sign is 12-1/2" wide by 13-1/8" high. It weighs two pounds. The maker's name is in the middle at the bottom of the front side and can be seen in the second photo. The colors are a vibrant red and cobalt blue. This sign is trimmed to near the edge in cobalt blue. The four metal grommets are finished in white and I believe this is how the sign was made when new. Most of the chipping in the porcelain is on the edges and can be seen in the photos. I have owned this sign since about 1975. Notice the dots and marks throughout the backside of this sign in photo three. They appear to have mostly been t from when the sign was manufactured. Based on my research, I believe this sign dates back to 1949 but I am not an expert on the various designs and dates they came in and went out. One last note. On close picky inspection, you will notice some faint rub type marks on the face that do not show up in the photos. I have never buffed out the face of this sign and do not know if they would easily polish out. On 3/17/08 a sign of this type sold on a Proxibid auction for $235. It was lot #1025.
