Original Shotei Hiroaki Shin Hanga Japanese Wood Block Print 1934, Pencil Signed

Offered in this eBay auction is an original Japanese woodblock print by Shotei Hiroaki (1871-1945), onet of the most famous Shin Hanga print makers, and one of the earliest recruited by Watanabe Shozaburo. The print is executed in Oban Yoko-e format and measures approximately 10.5" x 15". This is one of Watanabe's most populat images ever, and is still being republished at present in a Heisei edition. I believe this particular print to be a first edition based on the paper, and the fact that it is pencil signed. I know that Hasui prints with the 6mm Watanabe seal were generally printed either before 1923 or from 1946-57, but this is not always the case. Virtually all of the Ito Shinsui prints published by Watanabe in the 1930's also have the 6mm seal (rather than Watanabe "C" seal). The print is an excellent impression, with fine color and in good condition (some slight toning in right margin). It has been custom framed for display in museum quality conservation mounts.
