Up for auction: An amazing Oil/Pastel study by Marc Chagall. This Oil/Pastel/crayon on paper is titled “Portrait of Jarrold Davis” and was painted in 1953. Piece measures 10 1/2 by 14 1/2 inches (27 by 37 cm) and an impressive 14 by 19” inches still sealed behind and inside its period oak and brass frame. This drawing was acquired from a very well known East Coast collector from the notorious Crispo Gallery of NYC in the 1970's. The sketch's back is labeled and stamped by aforementioned Gallery and Owner to preserve its identity and ownership when it was loaned out to museums and was intended to appear in an upcoming posthumous published collection of the late former owner, (all stamped, signed and notarized paperwork that accompanies the piece will note this and display these names). This portrait made by Chagall during his life in France depicts the face of a young, curly haired male. Black crayon overlays a multilayered, multicolored oil background.
