Oxygen bottle is in excellent condition with minor surface wear and some chipped paint. Bottle lettering reads: Aviator's Breathing Oxygen. Comes with it's original khaki canvas storage pouch. The pouch and tie straps are in great shape with some surface grime. Pouch lettering reads: U.S. Airforce Bailout Breathing Oxygen DWG. No. 42G7365. Both flex hose and pipe stem are in outstanding shape. No damage or wear. Everything is 100% Original! The bottle is stamped: H1-AC-2-43-38400 The valve knob and pipe stem are both made of wood. The valve does rotate freely. The gauge is intact and does have some surface rust and chipped paint. Some scratching to plastic guage lens. The bottle is completely empty of any oxygen. This U.S. Army Air Force "bailout bottle" was designed to give pilots the means to survive a parachute descent from very high altitudes. This is a model H-1 oxygen bottle, that was introduced in 1941 and declared obsolete in 1945. This bottle is date-stamped February 1943. The H-1 could hold 1800 psi of air, or 10 minutes of breathing time. The apparatus featured a manually-operated valve on top and a flexible hose ending in a "pipe stem" that the aviator held in his mouth. The canvas bottle pouch was either sewn onto the flight suit or tied onto the aviator's thigh, using the 2 attached straps. A must have for the World War II military memorabilia collector!
