Since my uncles passing, all of my listings are totally from my Uncle Jimmy's estate; James Bernard Byrnes, 2/19/1917 9/26/2011 AN ABSTRACT IMPRESSIONIST LIFE! My uncle Jimmy (as I knew him) was a man before his time. He was involved with art from the beginning. Abstract, African & Modern art. He was a champion of young artists and was instrumental in starting many careers; Ynez Johnston, Leonard Edmonson and Lin Emery to name a few. Man Ray got his first LARGE payment for one of his pieces after my uncle got under him! My uncle believed in art as a teaching tool, art as a measure of our humaness! His estate is a truly a mixed bag of facinating, museum quality, ecletic pieces of his life. His wife, my aunt Barbara Cecil Byrnes, was also a character, starting the first American Contemporary Gallery in Los Angeles in 1948 on Hollywood Blvd and even sporting a signature of Miro in the sidewalk in front of it. She also ran a Jazz Museum in New Orleans in the 50s. Her real love was jewelry, wearing museam pieces as others wear diamonds! The pictures of the PreColomnbian gold and jade are hers and she wore them all. She also had a love of the Native craftsmen in the Southwest and Mexican jewelry, particularly Old Taxco. She and uncle have dealt in Fine Arts and Pre Colombian jewelry for over 60 years so please check my other auctions, This is the link to my uncles HiStory: /byrnesj.htm I really don't know about most of this stuff, Meaning, most of the signed litho's and art were stored in drawers for years, and I inherited them. Leaving me to figure out who the artists are and their origins. Knowing his place in the art world, whatever he has I believe to be original and true.
