SCARCE and ORIGINAL W.W. II "Canadian Helmet" Mk.III, D-Day helmet.Turtle shell.British Mk.II liner made by E.W. Vero and Co. in 1941 ('Vero', '1941' stamped on a black suspension of the liner).Size:7 1/4.The shell was painted in rough textured grey/green over the original dark charcoal colour.Issued to the units of the D-Day-Normandy Landing,6 June 1944-.No apparent markings (covered by the paint coats?).As it was also worn by the Canadian soldiers who landed with the first waves (3rd Canadian Infantry Division),the French named these helmets "Canadian Helmet" which is a wrong denomination for Canada never made these helmets.T were not enough liners to provide the shells,the soldiers removed the liner from their own British made Mk.II shell and fixed it on the Mk.III shell.The Mk.II helmets were issued to the Canadian soldiers early arrived in United Kingdom by 1939-1940.C/w a Canadian bi-colour green/brown knotted camo net.A First Field Dressing made by Arthur Berton Ltd.,in 1944 is inserted between the net and the shell.It was worn and saw services.No dents.A very scarce and nice W.W.
