Very Rare and historically important, original, 1815 American War of 1812 Illustrated Broadside titled "Battle of Plattsburgh and Victory on Lake Champlain : In Which 14,000 British Myrmidons were Defeated and Put to Flight by 5000 Yankees and Green-Mountain Boys on the Memorable Eleventh of Sept., 1814.". Windsor (Vermont), 1815. Printed for the Flying Bookseller (Jesse Cochran) Jan. 1, 1815 (stated date but printed sometime after February 1, 1815). The very rare and important, original 1815 broadside offered is a damaged example of one of the most elaborate Broadsides published during the War of 1812. The Broadside, when intact, measured 19 1/2" x 23 ¾" - this example measures 18 ½" x 23 ¾" with loss along the left hand edge (affecting the 1st of 7 columns of text and illustrations) and at the lower right hand corner (see the scans below for a good indication of the damage to this wonderful Broadside). This Broadside has been identified by the American Antiquarian Society as number 1709B of the Catalog of Vermont Imprints 1778-1820. it is stated that this is the 3rd printing of the central "Song" (first published in January of 1815 as a smaller, 3 column Broadside containing the "Battle of Plattsburgh.." only) and the second printing of the complete 7 column Broadside with full text and illustrations.
