This is an extremely nice example of a mid-WWII M1 helmet. The shell is a McCord swivel bale or hinged chinstrap loop with a rear seam butt. These were manufactured in late 1943 through the end of the war. However, the khaki chinstraps date from 1941-43 and have the brass hardware with mildew inhibitor. The original cork OD finish shows just the right amount of use to make it a great display. Shell has light surface rust inside which just shows age and gives it character. Definitely looks like a helmet worn by a vet "on the line." The liner was manufactured Seaman Paper Co., one of the rarer liners. The A-washers are brass with mildew inhibitor, making it late war. The khaki webbing is triple weave HBT and is in excellent condition. The leather headband is Frost Co. with the green mid-war clips. The leather chinstrap is also in excellent condition and probably original to the liner. Nape strap also likely original to liner and the manufacturer is no longer visible. This helmet is complete in every respect and can easily be used for re-enactment or better yet for a great display as it has that "patina" which can't be duplicated and missing in helmets that are in "unissued" condition. This is a typical helmet which was brought back by a vet and ended up in an attic.
