You are bidding on an original 1945 WWII US Army Airforce Mess Kit, Canteen Holder and Utensils They are made from stainless steel. The bottom of the canteen holder states U.S. C.M.C.O 1945 The knife, fork and spoon all have the marking of U.S. on the front and the knife has 1945 on the front. The knife and fork have some red staining on the back of them. The bottom of the mess kit has the letter S painted in red on it. The bottom of the handle says U.S. This Mess Kit wascarried by my grandfather, Allen H. Smith, who was a sergeant in the UnitedStates Army Air Force. Born on June 17, 1922 in Baltimore, Maryland, he joined the United States Army Air Force on August 23, 1943 in Fort Lee, Virginia. He became part of the 19th bomb group, 20th Air Force stationed in Guam, Marianna Islands. His position was right scanner aerial turret gunner in a Boeing B-29 Bomber. He flew 24 missions over Japan, 22 were bomb dropping missions, 1 was a Prisoner of War mission photographing the area to see where the camps were located and 1 was the Victory over Japan flyover. He carried this Mess Kit on every mission. I am blessed to still have him around so please feel free to ask any questions and I'll pass them along! It is in good shape and has amazing history to it!
