Original WWII Early Issue Mk II "Kabar" Fighting Knife Blade-Marked This is a nice example of an early war issue of a blade-marked MkII Fighting Knife, generically known at the Kabar. The MkIIs were made by Camillus Cutlery Company of NY and Union Cutlery Company of Olean, NY (Kabar). Some were marked USMC and some USN. Virtually all were sold under USN contracts and the USN marked MkIIs were issued to the USMC. A few showed up in the ETO. This item is clearly marked Camillus, NY on one side of the blade and Mk II USN on the other side. The blade marked MkIIs were superceded by the hilt-marked MkIIs later in the war. This is not a post-war copy. You can see the blade is pinned from both sides through the cap. Post-war copies/designs were pinned from one side. Most MkIIs were parkerized, a smaller percentage were blued. This example is a bit rare, because it retains about 60% of it's original bluing. The leather washers that make up the handle are in excellent condition and the knife holds a keen edge. Altogether, a nice example of an early war Mk II. Example on pg 36 of B. Canfield's Infantry Weapons of WWII. Shipping is $8 within the US. Shipping overseas is at the risk of the buyer. I have successfully shipped historical knives and bayonets overseas, but overzealous customs agents are not under my control.
