This auction is for an Original WWII WW2 German HJ Canteen / Field Flask with an EXTREMELY RARE Black Canteen Cover with Golden Thread! A truly beautiful canteen that is hard to find.
A .8 liter aluminum canteen of the same design asthe standard M31 pattern but for the harness configuration. Its black Bakelite screw-on cap has no markings. Analuminum stud to its top center has a leather strap attaching it to the metal friction clip on the harness. The aluminum canteen has "SL40" stamped to its neck. The body fits into an black felt cover, with a four closures along its left facing upper side. A metal stud is sewn into the base of the cover. The cover exhibits very light aging. Its black leather harness is comprised of a strap which loops through the light grey painted metal friction clip to the upper reverse and attaches by a buckling hole to the metal stud to the canteen bottom. short strap passes through the loop for the friction clip, around the neck of the canteen, and mates with one of the strap’s four buckling holes with a single-pronged buckle and retaining loop. Of note: These canteens did not come with a cup, but used a separate, usually aluminum, cup carried in the backpack. Rare to find any HJ items. Please Note! Canteen Cover is much darker (Black). Shows up gray in most of the Photos. Condition: Aluminum flask- marked SL40 on neck. Great Condition. Cover- Great Condition Strap- Number stamped into inside facing cap strap. Buckle has some corrosion, rusted. Leather loop has come loose on one side that holds strap into place. Some crazing to the leather. Stitching loose on one part of leather that holds D-Ring buckle into place. Overall, Strap is delicate. Bakelite Cap-Great condition Buyer to pay 10 USD for S/H anywhere within the Continental US.
