An Art Nouveau./Jugendstil jelly box with under plate by the famous Orivit firm of Germany. The piece dates to the first decade of the 20th century. The box appears to have a very slight imprint of the maker's mark on the bottom of the under plate. But I cannot verify this for certain. I have had an identical under plate before and it was so marked. "Orivit." The underplate measures Six & Three-Quarters [ 6.75 ] inches in diameter. Or, 17.00 Cms. It is about One-Third [ 00.33 ] of an inch in height. The glass bowl is Four & One-Half [ 4.50 ] inches in diameter. Or, 11.50 Cms. With the lid on, it measures about Two & One-Half [ 2.50 ] inches in height. Or, 6.50 Cms.The design is strong and evidences little degrading. I believe the piece was "professionally" polished at some point in its history which probably resulted in the maker's mark being obscured. The pewter is what is called "silver pewter." For international bidders, the piece when packed will qualify for shipping by First Class Mail International. This can result in substantial savings on shipping costs. I stand corrected on the maker of the jelly box. A good friend was kind enough to point out to me that the piece was actually made by the Scherf firm, not by the Orivit concern. The Scherf firm marketed the piece in its Osiris/Isis line of products. It is model number "309." Sorry about the mistake.
