REPRODUCTION From my uncle's estate - New Orleans undated Blue Book. Preface reads "This Directory and Guide of the Sporting District has been before the people on many occasions, and has proven its authority of what is doing in the Queer Zone. Everybody who knows to-day from yesterday will say that the Blue Book is the right book for the right people." Then it reads "Why New Orleans Should Have this Directory" and the next page "Why This Book Must Not Be Mailed." Part of that page reads "To know the right from the wrong, to be sure of yourself, go through this little book and read it carefully, and then when you visit Storyville you will know the best places to spend your money and time as all the BEST houses are advertised. Read all the "ads." The book contains nothing but Facts, and is part of the greatest value to strangers when in this part of the city. The Directory will be found alphabetically, under the headings "White" and "Colored," from alpha to omega. The names in capitals are landladies only...." and so on. This 94 page book measures just short of 4.5" by just short of 5.5" in height. There are a lot of great ads and information on houses of prostitution. The houses are as follows: Miss Hilda Burt at 205 N. Basin, you then have an alphabetical listing of the "whites" and "colored" associated with these houses of ill repute. There are photos of the inside of the homes although those aren't very clear. Next is the home of Miss Josie Arlington at 225 N. Basin, Miss Minnie White at 221 N. Basin, Miss May Evans at 315 N Franklin, "Gypsy" Shaffer at 1536 Iberville Cor. Villere and several more. All pages are tight and intact. There is writing in the book, someone tallied up the number of "whites", "colored", and "landladies." There is yellowing to the edges of the cover.
