Ornate Antique Carved Ivory Sheathed Stiletto Indian/English * Circa 1820 This beautiful stiletto is carved of real ivory with a detailed crown finial. It reverses to screw into the handle so that the point is protected. It has a glowing original patina and nice ivory grain. The condition is excellent with no chips, cracks or other damage. It screws together perfectly in both directions and measures 3 5/8" long closed and 4 5/8" open. It was probably carved in India for export to England in the early-mid 19th century. This one was in my collection for over 20 years and is almost exactly like the one shown on p. 88 of Nerylla Taunton's book Antique Needlework Tools .
