Ornate Antique Silver Needlework / Sewing Set German * C1860 This lovely silver needlework tool set is fitted into a fancy velvet lined box with a hand colored print on the top. Inside is a silver needle case, seam knife, stiletto, crochet hook, waxer, bodkin/earspoon, thimble, 2 thread winders and scissors. The silver pieces are deeply embossed with wonderful Baroque patterns . They have no marks but all test 800+ pure silver. E verything fits well in its space . The thimble is gorgeous with an applied scrolling band. It has needle holes in the top but is in round with no other damage and is about an American size 8. Based on the style, t's no question that these are German or Austrian Circa 1850-60. The scissors have tight sharp blades and cut beautifully. I think one bow has been repaired (see close up) but it was well done. The silver on all of the other tools is in excellent condition with no denting. The little winders are mother of pearl and less than 3/4" in diameter. They sit in mirrored recesses. The box has a few nicks and scuffs, but is in overall nice condition. Inside the top is the original mirror, lined with silk chenille. It's in great condition though it looks fuzzy in my photo. The case opens and closes well with a push button latch. The hinges are strong and it measures 6 5/8" by 4 1/2".
