ORNATE Huge 1880 VICTORIAN Sterling CHERUB BELT BUCKLE No Reserve!! Outstanding huge ornate Antique (1876 - 1896) Victorian sterling silver belt buckle with wonderful detail and open work design. The buckle features a young Woman with a Gargoyle or the Devil above her surrounded by Cherubs/Angels/or Fairies. T is also fruit, flowers, leaves and vines. Very beautiful!!! The belt buckle does have a black material belt attached, it is old, but very simple and can easily be removed. The buckle has English Hallmarks, and the hallmarks are actually part of the detail on the front, though t are two letters on the back of the buckle too. The front has the hallmarks - W.C. (Maker) - Lion (for Sterling Silver) - Lions Head (for London) - and the Date Mark (which dates this buckle between 1876 & 1896). The back of the buckle has the letters T N. Not sure what they stand for. The belt that is attached does have some stretch to it and measures 36" to 39"L x 1-1/2"W (the black material belt shows wear and can easily be removed to add your own.) The belt buckle has the original patina, and it's in excellent condition. Weighs a solid 80.5 grams Buckle Measures: 5-3/8" x Just over 2-1/2" Please see the other Antique Sterling Silver BELT BUCKLES I have listed this week on ebay. The term "Patina" is sometimes used, the definition of Patina is "color change on the surface of metal, resulting from age and exposure to the atmosp; a type of oxidation." I do not polish the jewelry, I have found many collectors feel that it devalues a piece to polish it, so I will leave the polishing up to the new owner.
