This auction is for a STERLING SILVER OVERLAY DECANTER or JUG made circa 1900. I could not find a maker's mark, but the quality of the work suggests ALVIN. The jug or decanter is really ornate, well-made, featuring agrape leaves and clusters done in very high relief, with contrasting scrolls. The pictures describe it better than I am able. The decanter is 9" tall and approximately 5 1/2" in diameter. It has a cartouche that could be monogrammed, but is blank. No monogram or removal. Condition is excellent, no dents, dings, cracks, losses. The stopper is really as new, marked with "18" etched into the bottom. The glass is cloudy on the bottom, I have never tried to clean it. I think it would clean up very well. Signed only "Solid Silver", and tests as at least sterling. Really gorgeous! A wonderful addition to a collection. Satisfaction guaranteed. Thanks for looking, and good luck. |
