This is a no-reserve auction for a stunning Orrefors glass vase by Edvard Hald, the highly regarded Swedish glass designer. Hald joined Orrefors in 1917 and helped develop a new glass making technique called “Graal.” This Graal technique allowed the artist to etch designs into the glass and then encase them in outer layers of glass that were polished to create a soft, rounded piece. This vase is a wonderful example of Graal glass. As you can (hopefully) see from the photos, Hald’s technique produced multiple layers of fish and aquatic plants underneath the glass, with an almost 3-D effect. The vase is about 4 1/4 inches wide and 4 1/4 inches tall. It is very heavy (about 8 lbs.). It is etched on the underside with the vase number, “ORREFORS”, “Graal,” and the signature “Edvard Hald.” The vase is in excellent condition. The glass is clear, and there are no chips, no cracks, no breaks, no scratches (other than some very light shelf-wear on the bottom), and no repairs. There are a few extremely tiny, and barely visible, air bubbles in the glass -- but this comes from the glassmaking process. There are also three small footer pads on the bottom, visible in the photos. I have photographed the vase from different angles and under different lighting. Please examine the photos for additional detail, and feel free to ask questions. I read more
