This cane is topped by an incredibly detailed 2.65 x 1.25” diameter cut-work silver knob featuring a procession of 3 Chinese noblemen who come before a seated Lord beneath a fantastic tree. This piece is carved silver, not chased as is more common. There are different geometric cut bands, above and below the central design. The cutting is quite deep and has a very uniform stippled background. The pommel, or top of the cane is cut with an interlocking chain of bats in flight, surrounding a deeply cut Chinese letter. Though unmarked, this silver is almost certainly sterling or better. The knob is mounted on a tapered, banded light and dark exotic hardwood shaft with a 1.5” nickel and steel ferrule. A wonderful stick. EXC. Total length 25.5”.
