Exquisite and very rare hand-painted porcelain bowl
Artist:
The bowl has been produced by the Danish manufacturer Bing & Grondahl. It is numbered 6810/17, bears the factory mark B&G and is stamped with the Three Towers emblem. ,,Bing and Grondahl" was opened in 1853 by Frederick Vilhelm Grondahl, a young artist and sculptor, partnered with M.H. and J.H. Bing, successful businessmen in Copenhagen. In 1889, Bing and Grondahl showcased its first underglazed porcelain service. The company produced a dinner service called Heron that featured the newly developed underglazed style. In 1895, Bing and Grondahl released the first of its Christmas Plates. Throughout the early years of the 20th century, Bing and Grondahl experienced rapid growth. In 1914, the company began producing stoneware. In 1925, Bing and Grondahl developed "soft porcelain" goods. Bing and Grondahl opened its second factory in 1949.
The bowl has been hand-painted by Christian Benjamin Olsen ( 1873- 1935), a well-listed Danish marine painter. Olsen's seascapes are known for their great details and naturalistic style. He also worked as a porcelain artist creating several ship portraits on large vases (1906-1913 he worked at Bing & Grondalm, in 1913-1935 worked at the Royal Porcelain fabric). Olsen has been exhibited numerous times in Denmark and has been exhibited at the Danish National exhibition at Brooklyn Museum of Art.
