A wonderful German hand painted oval KPM style porcelain plaque, representing an elegant lady, indistinctly signed, marked C.M. Hutschenreuther, 19th century, in ornate gilt bronze frame. Description: On offer is this wonderfully executed German porcelain oval plaque. It shows the head and shoulders portrait of an elegant lady in 18th century French style. She is depicted wearing a lace collar and a fashionable wig. The plaque is hand painted and indistinctly signed below right: ' .. L(?) W ün....?' '. Although not traceable by me, this artist must have been an outstanding painter, in view of the superb quality of this object. This plaque is painted with superb details, in a style and quality reminiscent of KPM and other well known other German factories. The reverse of this plaque has an impressed factory mark which was used by the C.M. Hutschenreuther factory of Hohenberg a.d. Eger, Bavaria. It is an impressed blind mark (' Preßmarke ') of the entangled monogram C.M- H.R (for Carl Magnus Hutschenreuther) in a circle. According to the European Pottery Marks reference book this mark was used from 1857 onwards, well into the 19th century, which makes accurate dating of this object possible: second half 19th century. The Hutschenreuther factory mark is combined with an impressed numeral: '15'. The plaque is mounted in it's contemporary oval gilt bronze frame in the Louis XV style. The ornate frame is in excellent condition. This top quality piece is in wonderful condition with no cracks, chips or repairs, and only some very light (hardly visible) surface wear, as is to be expected on an object of considerable age. The raised oval plaque stands 4,25 inches (11 cm) high (including bow) and 2,75 inches (7 cms) wide.
