Located in Austin, Texas, this is an oversize beautiful antique mahogany wood partner's desk/table with a engraved leather top. It has never failed to elicit praise and admiration from business associates who see it for the first time. Interested buyers are welcome to arrange a viewing; please contact me directly.
It has five working drawers, two on each of the long sides, and one at one end. It was dated as being circa 1850s-1860s from England and was brought to New Orleans. It has two modifications professionally done in New Orleans by Waldhorns. The two center legs are removable and were added in 1970 for additional support. Brass casters were added then as well to the four corner legs, but all but one caster have sheared off in various office moves since 2001. There are some pre-existing surface cracks that all pre-date its being purchased 40 years ago (nothing since). See photos. The buyer may want to have some light restoration work to the legs to either remove or replace the casters, hence the discount on starting bid price from original cost. The desk was purchased from Waldhorns Antiques in New Orleans in 1970 for $5000 and an appraised value could be much higher, possibly double have been advised, at retail prices. More photos can be sent to truly interested buyers via email. Have made a movie (.avi format) that is 118 Meg of the desk for truly interested buyers, can arrange for download; send me an email if interested. It was used as both a working desk, and later as conference room table, for a consultancy in Austin, Texas. In 2001 the desk was successfully transported from it's prior 30 year home in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in a law firm and then at a residence. The desk measures 8 1/2 feet long (102 inches) by 4 /2 feet wide (54 inches), and is 31 1/2 inches tall with casters (without, it would be 29" high). I can estimate it weighs at least 150 pounds, possibly more... two men can lift and maneuver it, but four (one on each corner is better). I will put the freight cost calculator in but NOTE, ACTUAL COST MUST BE DETERMINED BY THE BUYER, DO NOT RELY ON EBAY FREIGHT CALCULATOR Due to its size and bulk, the buyer is financially responsible for arranging local downtown Austin, Texas pickup -- or any shipping arrangements. However, I can help coordinate from here. You may want to contact this company Ship SMart which handles shipping antiques such as this: /lp/shipping_antiques.aspx It's perfect for a law firm or prestige consultancy - it WILL truly impress your clients.
