For sale, an original handwritten diary by a Ms. Olive Gaither of Ozark Missouri. Dairy includes daily Journal entries from part of the year of 1933 then all 365 days of 1935, 1936, 1937, 1938. This compelling piece of Americana is hard to put down once you start it. a woman takes time each day to share a part of her life with the reader, remeber the historical context of these years. See talks about her and Dad going to different towns for different reasons, Ozark, Tecumseh, Sparta, Elm, Linden, Springfield MO. Lincoln Rogersville, ELK and more. She talks of how she quilts, butchers sow, renders lard, churns butter, takes care of kids, canned meat, Makes sausage, goes to church and movies, buys things taht include price. Talks about dust storm, Roosevelts inauguaral speech on radio, Death of King George. Specks of local businesses Marlby's, Porteo, Bleethes, with mention of many local names, many in address section in the back of the diary. Includes some newspaper clippings, one from the day Amelia Earhart went missing July 2nd, 1937 and tons more. A unique view of what continual daily life was like in a rural area at that time in America. Much about her family and friends. Much on weather.
