P. E. Guerin

Talon / Claw Lamp Base - Brass

Eagle?

This lamp base measures approx. 13 7/8" high, 9 1/2" wide, and 13" from front to back talon. It weighs approx. 7 lbs. 11 oz.

T are several markings on the piece. "P.E. Guerin N.Y." is stamped twice on the bottom center. "P.E. GUERIN" is stamped on the bottom of each side talon. "PATENTED APRIL 13 1886" is stamped on the back hook talon. What looks like "588" is stamped in the steel part on the bottom side. T is also a patent date marked on the side on one talon but it is rather hard to read.

I did find an online photo of a similar lamp. It was originally a gas or oil floor lamp made in the late 1800's.

As you can see from the photos, one of the talons is bent in. I believe it could probably be straightened, but will leave that to the lucky bidder. It has not been cleaned.

This base could be made into a great lamp or just used as a very interesting knick knack.
