PAINTED CAST METAL POLICEMAN RADIATOR CAP WHIRLIGIG ABOUT THE PIECE: Made of painted metal (Probably aluminum), this circa 1910 whirlygig is just too cool! We're not exactly sure if he was made for a Model-T or a Model-A radiator, but I've no doubt that some helpful "ebayer" out t will let us know. I just know that I would have liked to have been behind the wheel of whatever vehicle it was on and have seen him go! His arms spin and his body rotates on the center of a shaft that goes through his body and fastens under the lid of the actual radiator cap. T's terrific detail from the badge and buttons on his coat to the belt and buckle that wrap around his rotund figure. You can just envision our pudgy little traffic cop in the middle of the street waving his arms as the cars go whizzing by. He's got great paint, is exactly as found and has been a great conversation piece in our folk art collection for years. The only thing we've done, is added a very nice museum mount for displaying this wonderful piece of Americana. His arms still move freely and he turns very smoothly on the base of the original brass radiator cap. IT SHOULD BE NOTED: That just two weeks ago Skinner Boston sold a whirligig similar to ours, but without the original radiator cap and a lesser mount for $1470. ($1200. Plus a 22.5% Buyers Premium of $270. for a total of $1470.) Overall width at the widest point is 4-1/2 inches. The mount/stand is made of steel and painted flat black. Dimensions for the stand measure: 3-1/2 inches square x 3/8 inch tall for the base and the center column measures: 2-7/8 tall x 2-5/16 inches diameter. The weight of this little guy comes in at a little over 1 pound, 4 ounces and when you add the mount, (2 pounds, 5 ounces) the total weight is: 3 pounds 9 ounces. CONDITION: Overall condition is very good with original paint and expected paint loss, just like we found it. T is rust under the brass radiator cap w the rod that holds the policeman is attached and some old twine is wrapped around the base between his feet and the cap. We have done nothing to this piece since its purchase. Our reserve is well below the price mentioned above (under $700), in fact it's less than half and no Buyer's Premium!
