This small but elegant hope chest, Dated 1799, is from upper Hessonia, Germany. It was given as a wedding gift where small treasures and important documents were kept. The carving, arches, applied columns and paint decoration are all elements that make this little chest a rare piece of folk art. It is in very good condition with wonderful original hardware, a working lock and candle box. The feet were added at a later date.
