a really Great old painted rawhide "parfleche" sheath and knife --wood handled "trade" knife with a 6" blade --sheath is painted "parfleche" (rawhide ) --all the designs are cut into the rawhide and painted with a reddish, green, and "yellow" ochre geometric pattern --my Uncle Nick picked this up by Kensal, N.Dak. back in about 1930 from an Indian man as payment for some stuff that the man wanted --I got it from my Uncle Nick in 1969 for helping him with his rent --when I had the "Theater of Time" Museum of the Amer. Indian and Fur Trade in Cripple Creek, Colo. , I hosted an Amer. Indian Movement rally at the Museum sponsored by Ogallalla Sioux leader, Buddy Red Bow. of the 2 dozen folks t in 1986, the consensus was that this was either Sioux or Cheyenne, and that the sheath dated from early "Indian Wars" and that the knife was more likely 1890s--this is a really Super neat old rawhide sheath and knife set. !!!!
